I love the stage we are in with our boys right now. Although we do have some difficult days when it comes to listening, following directions, getting along, etc. But both of the boys are really into fishing, which lends to some pretty fun evenings and weekends as a family. When we haven't been busy with camps, practices and the like, we've spent many evenings fishing at a local lake near our house.
We even camped out one night a few weekends ago. It is so much easier to plan allergy-friendly foods for a trip like that when it's mere minutes from home! We packed all safe foods and our own utensils for cooking over coals and a wood fire, rather than using community grates and such. Since we've done the week-long camping gig with allergies before, this was a piece of cake! This made my anxiety almost none and we were able to enjoy a relaxing time together.
Mason had no trouble casting his own line from the start. He's a natural!
He even caught his very first fish only a few casts into our first evening there! He was pretty excited at the thought of catching something and taking it home to "cut it's chicken out" for dinner (he thinks everything is chicken, regardless of where it came from...). However, as soon as he reeled this guy in, he ran in the other direction. It was like pulling teeth to get him this close to the fish and smiling at the same time!
