Millstone® coffee and Mr. Coffee® 10-cup Optimal BrewTM CoffeeMaker

I am a member of the Collective Bias® Social Fabric® Community. This shop has been compensated as part of a social shopper amplification for Collective Bias, Millstone® coffee, and Mr. Coffee®.

I am a coffee lover. While I enjoy a good “fancy” cup of coffee on occasion and have a “usual” at my local coffee shop, I am all for a good cup of brew-it-yourself coffee made in my drip coffee maker at home. Even on busy mornings when I can’t relax and enjoy it, functioning properly just doesn't seem possible until I have a steaming mug in my hands and I’m breathing in that delicious aroma of my morning coffee.

They say certain smells trigger memory, and the smell of fresh brewed coffee is definitely a common one. When I catch that all too familiar scent, I am instantly reminded of my grandparents and my childhood.

Waking up on cold, wintry mornings after having slept in a twin bed in that old, two-story farmhouse. Dressing quickly and heading downstairs to warm up by the wood-burning stove. Eating a bowl of raisin bran cereal while Grandma made Grandpa his hot breakfast. I remember as if it were yesterday, sitting at the table with the orange-and-ivory floral patterned vinyl-covered chairs, and the smell of eggs and bacon and that ah-maz-ing coffee fragrance.

One of my best memories about that kitchen was the lattice rack stocked with an eclectic array of coffee mugs. I was fascinated by them! I may have just discovered the explanation for my own mismatched coffee mug collection…

When I think back, coffee plays a role in nearly every memory I have from my childhood. My parents would sip their coffee on Christmas morning while we kids dug through mounds of presents. After church on Sunday mornings, the adults would visit while drinking black coffee from white foam cups. I can’t recall a morning when my mom wasn't carrying her travel mug on the way out the door.

While I am enjoying reminiscing on where my #CoffeeJourneys began, I am even more thrilled to take this opportunity to share the fabulous combination of Millstone® coffee and the Mr. Coffee® 10-cup Optimal BrewTM Thermal Coffee Maker.

I have never used a thermal coffee maker before. I honestly didn’t know such a thing existed. I have always had the most basic coffee maker you could find. You know the one - with the glass carafe that sits on a hot burner plate until you either drink all of the coffee or it turns to a thick sludge in the bottom because you forgot to turn it off… (am I the only one who does that?)

When I picked up the Mr. Coffee® 10-cup Optimal BrewTM Coffee Maker at my local Walmart store, I was dancing in the aisles (seriously…I’m sure there is surveillance footage of it somewhere). I couldn’t wait to get that baby home and try it out.

I was also lucky enough to snag a couple of packages of Millstone® coffee in the French Vanilla and FogLifter® varieties. (I love the little scent-vents on the front of coffee packages, don’t you?)

Mason has been asking lately if he can help me make coffee in the mornings. I let him scoop the grounds and help with measuring out the right amount of water. He just thinks he is so grown up! (Won’t it be wonderful when he can make coffee on his own and bring me that mug before I even get out of bed?! - I can dream, right?)

The morning after picking up our Millstone® coffee and Mr. Coffee® Optimal BrewTM we had a fun little adventure in learning how to make that fantastic cup of coffee together. Mason loved that he got to hold the removable water container without having to fill the carafe and pour it into the reservoir, and this Mama loved that I she didn't have to clean up puddles of water afterward!

I also happen to love the that the coffee maker sounds an alarm when your perfect pot of coffee is ready. Just loud enough to wake me up and entice me to get out of bed to pour a cup!
I like to think that my parents and grandparents played a part in my current love affair with coffee because it brings people together. While I no longer have the great privilege of seeing my grandpa sitting at that kitchen table, or my grandma at the stove cooking his breakfast, I am beyond grateful that I still have those memories of them. I hope that by sharing these morning moments with my little one, he will eventually share similar heart-warming memories with his own family!
